The Art of Selfish Selflessness: How to Thrive While Helping Others

I wrote a message about being a little selfish.

 I received a lot of feedback, some in agreement and appreciating the message…  Why would you tell us to be selfish? 

 I get it… It goes against everything we have been taught.  Share with others

 Sharing is caring…

 Here is the thing… That is not wrong either.

 Both can be true.

Selfcare prevents burnout… When you try to be everything for everyone and not the one person you need for yourself. 

 You will burn out!...  I know ..  I’ve been there.

However, I also believe we are all here to serve others.  Our purpose as leaders is to add value to the lives of those around us.

It could be a kind word, it could be a word of correction…  It could be taking your skills and talents and using them to add value to others.  Solve a problem they need help solving.  Chances are you are already that person for people around you.

They think of you, when they need help in certain situations.

Don’t keep your talents for yourself.  Your skills for yourself.  They are meant to add value in this world.

Keeping them to yourself or only for your gain is the worst kind of selfishness.
