Own Your Future
This is another Fun Friday. For me learning is Fun. Well, when you are learning something that matters.
One thing I learned last week: People like talking about Vacations. 🤣. One of my good friends wrote a comment on a post I made about lessons learned on my last vacation. That comment sparked this post.
"No matter where the road takes you, take it all in and make some beautiful memories with your family. That way, you can’t go wrong!" Mary Ann Piñon, MS, SCP, PHR.
Isn't this really what life is about? We are all on a journey. We each decide what road to travel, when to turn, when to go straight, when to make a U-Turn, and backtrack a little to go a different route.
But are we so busy getting to the destination that we don’t take in the beautiful moments and create memories with the people we care about.
In the post, I talked about a recent road trip and we came across Little Big Horn. I had no idea it was there. I saw the sign and thought of the real Little Big Horn they talked about in school. We almost didn't stop at Little BigHorn. I was trying to get to a destination. I'm glad we did. We thought we would be there for a few minutes. It turned into a good 1.5 hours. Just sitting and reflecting. We went to a service station. It was full of people from different backgrounds. A local had walked into the store and he looked around. Then he looked at us and then kept going. Then he looked at us again we started thinking what is wrong with this dude? He then walked up to us and said.
“Brother, welcome home”.
He extended a sister to my wife.
That threw me off a little bit. I thought he was after something maybe some money or something.
He said, “You don't know it but we are brothers.”
Another African American man was standing behind me and he said. “Is he your family?”
I said no.
He said. “Oh well. I saw you and wanted to welcome you home.”
He went on to tell us some things about the area and invited us to come back during Sept because they had a big celebration that lasted for about a week. He then left…
I watched him a little to see if that was ... just his thing ... to talk to tourists. He didn't. He walked out of the store, got into his car and left.
So as we travel down our various roads on our journey...
Remember this:
"... take it all in and make some beautiful memories with your family. That way, you can’t go wrong!"
Thank you Mary Ann Piñon, MS, SCP, PHR. That quote was inspirational!
I cannot promise to post about vacations every week. I'm on a mission to make my daily life one that I don't need a vacation from as Maurice Philogene has made that one of my goals in life.
