Is it just me?

Have you noticed? It may just be me.  The people making the most noise on the internet are younger.

I’m an entrepreneur.  I will admit. It was a struggle.  I was a fireman, trashman, boss, and worker bee.  I loved it and well…

Hit a wall and faced burnout.  I also did not focus on the right things to build my desired business.

I’ve written about my burnout before.  Here is a link to review one of those articles.

How to Overcome Burnout and Build a Successful Business

Most of the time when I’m in the middle of learning.  Whether it is reading, listening, or watching for learning. Books, podcasts, articles, Youtube, or courses.

There is usually a nugget or two in there that I can take away and apply.

This time I was doing a complete self evaluation.  I needed to find out what I was doing wrong.

I remember telling my wife… A lot of the people I’m listening to are younger than me.  I mean, there are people older as well.

But a majority of the people put information out there.  At least the people I’m noticing are younger.

I was watching a podcast called The Dept.  hosted by a man named Omar Eltakrori.  His guest was Nehemiah Davis.  The podcast was about how to make your first million dollars (This year.)  I will have a link to the episode below.

Here is one thing he said, that was not even a part of the main topic:

The host said.  I noticed that when people get into their 30’s they start thinking differently.

In my mind I said.  Wait a minute.  I’m in my fifties.  Well, I’m 50 this year and I’m just now getting into this mindset.

It got me thinking about all the people that are in their 40’s and 50’s.  Did all the things as we were told and found ourselves in a “Good Place”.

A quick summary: What appears to be a good place is really a bad place that is made to look good.  It's like having a good job but no freedom.  Having a big house with a big mortgage that keeps you trapped in a good job, etc.

There is some irony in the Good Place.  You can read that article Here

It's a different world when you have lived life into your 40’s and 50’s.

You have a wider viewpoint and experience.  You also have a little more fear, your risk tolerance is different.  You have a lot to lose at this age.  It is usually tied to material things you can lose or the family you must care for and the responsibilities you have.

While some advice focuses heavily on time investment, the truth is many of my program participants are younger. Building a business, portfolio, brand, or audience takes dedication, but it's achievable for anyone.

I started thinking.  I have less time today than I had back then.  Because you know we all have a clock that will stop at some point.

This article is mostly just my thoughts but what am I going to do now?

Well, I’m focused on using time as a tool instead of a gauge.  I’m going to start pushing to create time.  Create a life I do not need a vacation from.

And I’m going to also focus on strategies to help those in their 40s and 50s build their dream lives.
