The Power of Faith, Focus, and Finish: How to Build the Life of Your Dreams

Article Highlights:

  • Discover how faith can empower you to overcome obstacles and live your purpose.

  • Understand the power of focus in achieving your most important goals.

  • Learn the importance of finishing what you start, no matter the challenges.

  • Why having fun is the key to a fulfilling journey.

Imagine not being able to sleep. You toss and turn in your bed.  But it's not because you are facing problems or dealing with life struggles. It's because you can’t wait to get started. Each day … ok most days.  You only lay your head down because the body requires rest for peak performance.

You love your life… The good, the bad and the ugly because you are living your purpose.

If that is you, you can stop reading here.

It reminds me of something I heard Deion Sanders say.  And I paraphrase…

“ I don’t have bad days.  I might have a bad moment or hour but I refuse to have a bad day.”

He refuses to allow anyone to take his joy. He also mentioned that when you are living a life of purpose, it is impossible to have a bad day.

Now oftentimes, we allow so many things to get in the way of us living a purposeful life.  Whether it is blaming others or fear of failure or simply just not taking responsibility for your life.  We all have our reasons.

Let me tell you a story of people that faced incredible odds and still lived their life's purpose.

Introducing the lives of remarkable figures in history Jarena Lee, Charles Henry Turner, and Althea Gibson. Their stories display how faith, focus, and finish are timeless principles that anyone can apply to their own journey.

But there’s more — something essential to enjoying the journey itself — many over indulge in it while others often forget it is a part of life.

Let’s explore how these three “F’s” can help you create a fulfilling life, and discover the fourth F that ties it all together.

Faith: Believing in Your Purpose

Faith isn’t just about believing when things are easy. True faith is believing when things get rough. When it feels like the universe is conspiring against you.

Jarena Lee, the first African-American woman authorized to preach in the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in 1819, shows how a belief in your purpose can overcome many obstacles. She faced constant opposition, both for her race and her gender. Things she did not choose and unable to change. Yet she never wavered from her purpose.

Faith is the foundation of everything we do.

Hebrews 11:1 (KJV):

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

To achieve anything big in life, you must first believe.

Ask yourself: What is one goal that you’ve been hesitant to pursue because of doubt? Trust in yourself, and take the first step.

Focus: Staying on Course

"Focus is success's secret weapon" -- Major Williams

Did you know there was a time insects could not hear?

At least that is what scientists believed until Charles Henry Turner made it on the scene. Charles Turner was a pioneering African-American scientist.

Turner faced significant barriers due to his race. Regardless of his circumstance he refused the lack of access to well equipped laboratories and funding to stop him from making his mark.

He remained dedicated to his studies and research to provide groundbreaking research on insects. Turner was able to prove insects could hear and identify sound. His success didn’t come from a lack of obstacles, but from his relentless focus on his goal.

Bruce lee said this about Focus.

"The successful warrior is the average man, with laser-like focus."

Ask yourself: What distractions can you eliminate to maintain your focus on your most important goal?

Finish: Persevering Until the End

“You will never know how far you can go until you finish.”  – Major Williams

Imagine not just breaking ground in one sport but two.  That is the story of Althea Gibson the first African-American woman to win prestigious titles like Wimbledon and the U.S. Open highlights the power of perseverance.

After achieving what seemed like the impossible she started a second sports career in professional golf becoming the first African American to compete in women's professional golf.

Althea pushed through boundaries and created inspiration for countless others. Simply because she did not quit.  She did not quit on the 1st or the 100th …  No.  She kept going until the thing was finished.

Finishing isn’t just about winning. It’s about pushing through challenges, staying determined, and seeing things through to the end. It’s about the satisfaction of knowing that, despite the hardships, you completed what you set out to do.

Not Finishing is like hitting a home run and not touching home plate after circling the bases…

The hard work is already done.  You believe in yourself, you identified what to focus on.

“Now get over yourself and Finish the thing!” –Major Williams

Ask yourself: What goal are you ready to finish, no matter how difficult the journey may seem?

The Missing F:

Now, there’s one more “F” that we haven’t discussed yet — and it’s one that might surprise you:

It's to have Fun.

You might be thinking, “I already know how to have fun!”

But the truth is, while many of us understand the concept of fun, we don’t always keep it in its place. It is at the end of the Four F’s for a reason.  When you are living a life guided by the principle of Faith, Focus, and Finish, you will find your life becomes more enjoyable.

The Bible reminds us of this truth in Ecclesiastes 3:13:

"That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God."

True Joy is a gift of finding satisfaction in our work.  To find it you must first find your purpose.. Fun isn’t just about leisure; it’s about enjoying the process, the challenges, and the victories along the way.

Remember: When you believe in yourself, stay focused, and finish what you start, you will not only achieve your goals — you’ll have fun doing it.
